(ILCE = Interchangeable Lens Camera with E-mount)
Sony are advertising their new E 16-55mm f/2.8 G wide-angle zoom lens as an everyday, carry around, workhorse lens for crop sensor cameras. With a constant f/2.8 aperture attached to a camera with 5-axis stabilisation, to compensate for camera shake, I’m more interested in using the lens for hand-held night photography. I started my night shoot at Tower Bridge for no other reason than there was a bridge lift booked for 5.30pm for two tugs to go up river and then at 6pm another lift for two tugs + vessel to go down river. Boats are normally named but ‘vessel’ usually means military and in this case it was the Brazilian Navy training ship Brasil that had been berthed next to HMS Belfast. It was towed backwards through Tower Bridge until the Thames is wide enough for Brasil to be turned and pointing in the right direction.
